About Us

Two Universities. Two Jurisdictions. Transnational Goals.

Our Objective

The Transnational Law Moot is the first joint moot competition hosted in two different international jurisdictions between Detroit Mercy Law School and Windsor Law.

We aim to highlight the skills and stamina it takes to be a Dual JD student: with the moot being open to single JD students as well, we open the “Dual JD experience” to all law students. This enables single JD students to have the opportunity of being exposed to the sphere of international and transnational law.

The implementation of this third annual moot demonstrates the long-standing relationship between the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Windsor. Mirroring each other across the Detroit River, the collaborative effort between the two universities allows law students and colleagues from both sides of the border to connect with one another while experiencing the world of transnational law.

Following the second year, a bench brief will be provided to participants as well.

Our Future

While the 2022 Inaugural Transnational Law Moot was held online due to COVID-19 precautions, our objectives remain big. We are thrilled to expand our moot to be a cross-transnational event in 2023, meaning students from other universities from both the U.S. and Canada will participate in the annual Transnational Law Moot competition event being held live in Windsor-Detroit, where the beauty of these border cities can be explored.

Additionally, in the future we look towards establishing the moot competition as a for-credit course for the University of Windsor and University of Detroit Mercy law students.
